Fic title: Living In Lucid Dreams
Author name: [info]hildigunnur
Artist name: [info]tipitina
Genre: RPS AU
Pairing: Jared/Jensen (Jared/Milo Ventimiglia, brief Jensen/Danneel Harris)
Rating: NC-17
Word count: ~28.000
Warnings/Spoilers: No warnings. Very minor spoilers for SPN season 3.
Summary: A malfunctioning garage door gives Jensen Ackles, an aimless Dallas office worker, a brief taste as his life as a TV star, and more importantly, gives him a glimpse of Jared Padalecki, the man of his dreams. How is Jensen going to find Jared in a world where they are both just regular Joes?
Note: Written for [info]spn_j2_bigbang 2009.
Disclaimer: I've no association with any of the people depicted in this story other than being their fan. The entire thing is a figment of my imagination.

Master Post - Art Post

Notes: Not to act coy like my Jensen or anything but this is my first venture into writing CWRPS and it was scary but fun ride. I had to do a lot of research since I've never stepped a foot on US soil. I do hope it has paid off but don't hesitate to tell me if I'm getting things that relate to culture, geography and things like that wrong. Like even Sam Winchester would admit, research only get you this far.

I suppose some of you may have recognised the oil company Jensen was working for and yeah, it's a Dallas reference.

Acknowledgements: First of all, go and tell my awesome artist [info]tipitina just how awesome she is. Her art is simply amazing. I can't stop looking at it. She did such a fantastic job. Plus she was great to work with. I couldn't have been luckier.

Then there's [info]sarka, super-beta and general hand holder. I would have probably given up on the fic if she hadn't encouraged me. Everyone should have a [info]sarka. *squishes her* Also any remaining errors are all mine.

And last but not least, my hat off to [info]wendy, [info]thehighwaywoman and [info]audrarose for running [info]spn_j2_bigbang so well and make it such a brilliant challenge.

The Iran Election Crisis

  • Jun. 16th, 2009 at 8:47 PM
the real hildigunnur

If you are reading this right now, you have more luxury than someone in Iran could ever hope for right now. If you are watching TV or a video on youtube, updating your status on Facebook, Tweeting, or even texting your friend, you are lucky. If you are safe in your home, and were able to sleep last night without the sounds of screaming from the rooftops, you need to know and understand what is happening to people just like you in Iran right now.

I've got an opinion or two

dh - mobile library
I offered you the chance to ask me about fandom opinion yesterday. Some of you jumped on the offer. The offer still stands if you like.

But here are the answers to the questions I've been asked so far.

[info]xkelorosiamano asked me about my opinion of Wincest.

My thoughts on Wincest )

[info]alphabet26 asked a lot of questions. The first one is one of my sample questions - the one about misogyny in SPN.

I don't hate on women )

[info]alphabet26 asked another SPN related question and I have an inkling [info]sarahblack is interested in the answer as well. That is, what's my thoughts on Jo?

Miss Harvelle if you are nasty )

Then there come the Harry Potter opinions.

[info]alphabet26 and [info]chickadilly both wanted my thoughts on the epilogue.

At the end of all things )

[info]alphabet26 then asked me about my favourite canon and fanon ships in Harry Potter.

Well, my favourite ship in HP canon is Ron/Hermione. Been shipping that since “whatever house I’m in, I hope she’s not in it.”

My favourite fanon ship is Harry/Ron. It’s the only ship I can claim to still read when it comes to Harry Potter fanfiction.

Finally [info]prettyannamoon got curious about what kind of Twilight fanfiction I'd write (if I had no choice or something).

No damn Edward/Bella, that's for sure! )

Meme for the jilted generation

jared - relevant to my interest
I had the idea last night to do something similar. Ask people to ask me about my opinion on fannish things. And then [info]chickadilly posted this meme and I pilfered it.

Ask me any question about any object of my fannish obsession - be it my opinion on the canon to my thoughts on the fandom itself - and I will answer.

So ask me away. You can ask me if I've perceived and am bothered by the misogyny in Supernatural or whether I like the epilogue in Deathly Hallows or not. Or with which Drop the Dead Donkey character I spend the night? Or what ship is the awesomest ship on Green Wing? Or if I had to, what kind of Twilight fanfiction I'd write? And yeah, those are just suggestions. Anonymous commenting is on. Ask away people.

Gacked most recently from [info]verav.

a. Name your 10 15 absolutely favourite fandom ships (try to pick different fandoms)
b. Ask people to see what trends and similarities they notice about your ships.

In some fandoms I can come up with several ships, in some of the fandoms mentioned, I thought "Well, if I ship anything in this fandom, I ship this."

1. Ron/Hermione (Harry Potter)
2. Merlin/Arthur (Merlin)
3. Stuart/Vince (Queer as Folk UK)
4. Seth/Summer (The O.C.)
5. Wash/Zoe (Firefly)
6. Jared/Jensen (RPS)
7. Legolas/Gimli (LotR book)
8. Aragorn/Legolas (LotR movies)
9. Sam/Dean (Supernatural)
10. Dominic/Villimey (Ísfólkið)
11. Will/Elizabeth (Pirates of the Caribbean)
12. Danny/Kenickie (Grease)
13. Kirk/Spock (Star Trek)
14. Hardison/Parker/Eliot (Leverage)
15. Darcy/Elizabeth (Pride and Prejudice)

It's not like I need the writing inspiration (my BigBang keeps on growing but the end is not in sight) but since [info]alphabet26 did a rather great job with this meme, I had to try.

10 Music Drabbles
1. Pick a character, pairing, or fandom you like.
2. Turn on your music player and put it on random/shuffle.
3. Write a drabble related to each song that plays. You only have the time frame of the song to finish the drabble; you start when the song starts, and stop when it's over. No lingering afterward!
4. Do ten of these, then post them.

I picked Dean Winchester because I owe him (and because [info]alphabet26 did such a great job with Sam). I wrote a fic about Dean that got Kripke'd big time before I could even contemplate posting it. I don't think I capture Dean all that well but at least I gave it an honest try.

Also if anyone wants the songs, let me know so I can upload them.

PS. [info]lokrur, be aware, there are potential spoilers in the drabbles.

People, I'm stuffed. Both with great food and great fic.

OMG! [info]yuletide! It's awesome. I was so lucky that I had the loveliest couple of Yuletide treats. Two adorable Grease fics with Kenickie and Danny being angsty and cute and slashy. Fade Out, Fade In and Greased Lightning.

The recipient of my fic seemed to like the fic so really it couldn't been better except for that fact that Yuletide means a tide of excellent fic. I've started bookmarking stuff, then I need to tag it and stuff on delicious.com. But I have to rec one fic now, The Running Order, a Drop the Dead Donkey fic where current events feature heavily.

OK, first I must admit that I'm a total newbie when it comes to [info]yuletide so be gentle.

I'm rather easy to please and can almost read anything whether it's gen, het or slash. You may be surprised as most of my requests involve slash but I do offer an escape plan for most.

My general squicks include incest and bloodplay so please avoid those. It should be relatively easy to accommodate, I hope.

Few notes on my requests. (Format stolen from [info]mctabby and slightly altered).

I tried to watch Mel Brook's History of the World Part I today and that film is seriously unfunny. I watched about an hour of it and I only managed to crack a smile over the dude selling the columns in the Roman part. I knew it was a silly film but it was more stupid than silly. And what was up with those faggot comments? Well, I just wasted my money on that DVD. Maybe they should have put a warning label on the case, telling people who appreciate Monty Python's approach to make fun of history to stay away.

An attempt at Anglo-Icelandic relations

  • Oct. 9th, 2008 at 7:34 PM
the real hildigunnur
First, a couple of public service announcements.

To the Icelandic people:

There are couple of reasons for the Brits acting so extremely about those savings accounts that the Icelandic banks were offering in the UK.

One. While we like our savings here and would rather not lose them, the Brits care twice as much. For a lot of Brits, their savings are their pension. The state pension in the UK is generally ridiculously meagre so most people have to save up for the twilight years. So people's savings being lost is a huge, huge deal for them. I even dare to say a lot more than it would be for us.

Two. The harsh reaction of the politicians, Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling, threatening law suits and using anti-terrorist laws to freeze the Icelandic banks' assets in the UK both stems from the remarks of Icelandic politicians whom for the most part are rather incompetent (sorry, I'd make a better minister of financial affairs than that veterinarian we have there) and the fact that their government has had an abysmal approval rating and not acting on this, would have cost them dearly in the matter of public opinion. It's not pretty but that's the way it is. In fact it has very little to do with us as the Icelandic nation per se.

Then to the British public:

Sorry for those greedy Icelandic entrepreneurs and the way we stuck our heads in the sand when we should have realised that there was something up with the way how they were doing business. Unfortunately I think our politicians, incompetents as they are, are right. We might have some difficulties with paying back as we need to keep some money to sustain ourself. Plus our own currency is completely down the drain at the moment. Show us some pity, mmm 'kay?

So to sum this up, let's hold hands and be friends and say fuck you to capitalism and its collapses.

On to fun and exciting things.

An oldie but goldie of mine was voted to be a featured fic at The Quidditch Pitch for this month.

Love the banner. Incidentally, the art isn't much in the spirit of the story but it's pretty art nevertheless.

I appear to have forgot to watch that "A Year in the life of JKR" documentary. I totally thought I had. It was on TV earlier and I sat down to watch it and I realise I totally hadn't. Good thing I didn't miss it now. A great documentary I have to say. ♥ JKR.

Here's a meme, supplied by [info]shocolate.

My moment of fandom zen

  • Jul. 9th, 2008 at 12:53 PM
so old school
When my flist exploded this weekend in reactions to that finale of Doctor Who, I just reclined in my metaphorical recliner and watched the commotion. I didn't feel envy or anything over not being a part of such a far reaching fannish happening.

I'm seeing posts here and there about people getting ready to go to Portus. I do hope they have fun, as much fun as I had at the only con I've been to. But I'm not burning to go like I've been over most cons.

Maybe I have reached some kind of a fandon zen so to speak which I find hilarious because once I just had to know everything - I had to know who this or that was and I had to be on top of every fandom rumour. Now I let one of my best friends and the person with whom I "grew up with" in online fandom, run wild in fandoms I've no intention in entering because I don't care for the source material. I remember agonising over the fact she might be into the CSI fandom at one point and I was fretting over all the seasons I would have to watch. (BTW, why do American TV series have to have so many episodes per seasons? Or am I just being lazy?)

I've been on the look-out for a new fandom for a long while - not because I don't like the Harry Potter fandom anymore, it's just I'm allowing myself to be really picky. That's proved to be a luxury for me - not worrying about this or that fest and not feeling like I'm missing the boat when I'm not regularly reading fic. As for a new fandom, I haven't found anything I've wanted pursue further than to examine the source.

Now you might ask, dear reader, why do I don't face that fact that I'm fed up with fandom. The answer would be that I don't think I am, I'm just enjoying it differently. I find myself in the role of the onlooker - a very aware onlooker who knows how it feels - every squee and every woe. And since I put myself into that metaphorical recliner in the beginning of the entry, I might add another metaphor. If fandom was a swimming pool, I'm lounging poolside, occasionally dipping my toes in but I haven't been submerged for quite some time now and I'm just fine with that 'cause I'm still friends with so many I've met through fandom despite the fact fandom-wise we have gone our separate ways lone time ago. And I think that's what matters to me.

In lieu of any real content, have a meme which I gacked from [info]melusinahp.

Memage Rules: Post the hottest sex scene you've ever written in your LJ. Yes! It's that easy! Flood the flist with porn! Yay porn! (Please warn accordingly.) Then comment with a link. :D

Well, I've never actually posted this fic in my LJ but those who are members of [info]erotic_elves can find it there. But after much consideration, I decided this was my hottest sex scene, to me at least. It hits so thoroughly my kinks for D/s and dirty talk, some of my other fics have come close to this but I think this one does it because I think I did a good job of describing the sub's powerlessness without ever going into any dub-con (which would have been a turn-off for me). So the warnings would be D/s, dirty talk and a little bit of roleplaying.

From Giving Up Control )

You can find the fic unlocked at my InsaneJournal, Giving Up Control.

One day I'll write a post that isn't a meme. But this is not the day. This is a day for a film quote meme, supplied by [info]onlymefeelinsad.

1. Pick 15 of your favourite movies.
2. Go to IMDb and find a quote from each movie.
3. Post them here for everyone to guess.
4. Fill in the film title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING/using IMDb search functions. Totally cheating, you dirty cheaters.

Get your movie quotes here! )

ETA. You are quick. I post this and leave the computer for two hours and all the movies have been guessed, except for two. I'll give you couple of clues. #8 is a bit hard because that movie has a narrator but it isn't the narrator who's speaking the quote (obviously not). #9 is the most romantic movie I've ever seen.

ETA.2. You are a very clever lot, you know. All quotes have been correctly guessed.

First off, a Harry New Year to you all.

I revamped my profile a little yesterday - well, I kind of cut down on the crap in it so to speak. I've decided to do an official step in the direction which I've been going in and that's to go semi friends-only. Pure fandom posts and such will remain open but they aren't that many. A little bit more than one a month or so.

I'm also in the process of locking old entries. I've 2002, 2003 and 2004 left and back then I was rather lax with stuff about me personally.

Here's my short list of fics I wrote in 2007.

Don't feel like working. Feel like talking about fandom instead.

I've been browsing fandom, like you would browse for a new pair of trousers. Not because I've lost my interest in Harry Potter or anything like that. But I've itchy feet and want to see if there's something out there that piques my interest. So far, there isn't much that calls to me. I've always occasionally looked at what LotRips has to offer but if I were do to that fandom relationship meme, LotRips is like that mysterious, insanely hot person I meet once or twice a year and we have mad sex for a whole night but that's enough for the both of us.
